Because of the period extend in which the antitrust department of European Commission must make a decision regarding Oracle’s take over of Sun Microsystems, the company is forced to lay off about 3000 employees.

When Oracle’s takeover was announced, Sun representatives declared that no cut downs will be made before the takeover but because of the postponing the server and network equipment producer says it is loosing 100 million dollars a month.

Even though the takeover was approved by the USA Justice Department, the antitrust department of EC hasn’t made a decision yet because is afraid that the takeover will affect the competition on the European database market.

Meanwhile IBM is taking advantage of the situation and is stealing Sun’s clients one by one. Even though IBM wanted to takeover Sun, Oracle’s offer of 7.4 billion dollars convinced Sun to sign a contract.
