SAP Buys Sybase
SAP continues its battle with rival Oracle by acquiring Sybase, therefore combining SAP’s know-how in enterprise solutions with data base solutions offered by Sybase.
The acquisition that will transform Sybase in a separate business division will be finalized in July and will cost almost 5.8 billion dollars, SAP offering 44% a share over the medium price.
The most wanted Sybase technologies are the mobile one, SAP wanting to address communication companies and the so called In-Memory Database which accelerates the processing of great quantities of information.
Analysts characterize the acquisition as an intelligent move from SAP first because the advanced technology that SAP will have and second because if Oracle would have acquired Sybase, SAP would have lost a strong partner.
